Karolina Zapadka is a 3rd year Ph.D. student working with peptide therapeutics to understand the mechanism of aggregation and amyloid fibril formation. The research is focused on investigating peptide properties such as folding, physical and chemical stability using a range of biophysical and analytical techniques. The project is carried out at the University of Cambridge (Department of Chemistry) and MedImmune (Formulation Group). Prior her Ph.D, she worked for 2 years as a Research Scientist in Arecor in Cambridge, UK. The research was focused on liquid formulation development for biologics. Including thermal stability study, investigating properties such as: aggregation, chemical instabilities and biological activity. She graduated from University of Lund (Sweden) with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Chemistry and gained her Master’s degree in Chemistry from University of Lund and Jagiellonian University (Poland). She had also the opportunity to spend 3 months in Dublin Institute of Technology, Focus (Ireland) in the Biospectroscopy group in the area of the development of Raman spectroscopy employed for cytological investigations. She is Chief Marketing and Communication Officer in the Innovation Forum, Cambridge and before that she was a President of Oxbridge Biotech Roundtable in Cambridge.
